An early 20th century Kurdish rug from north west Persia. A very pretty rug that is a village production with lots of freedom and variation in the motifs.
Dark blue field with trellised foliate design, soft red/pink flowerhead and lanceolate leaf main border; ivory and walnut/caramel floral guards.
Overall even wear and slight loss to the woven ends which are, however, remarkably intact for the age of the rug. Soft handle.
We have patched and darned at one end and have substantially improved an old, crude mend at the other. This rug was worth the effort - an appealing antique that is now ready for a new life.
