An early 20th century Afshar rug from South West Persia. The ivory field has an unusual design of flower sprays, within a flowering vine border.
This antique rug is of all wool construction and so probably produced in a village or nomadic setting for domestic use.
Thin pile, some corrosion to black wool,. "Bites" to one edge have been patched to preserve the overall integrity of the rug. Some loss to ends which are now tasselled except for a small patch preserved to show how the original woven ends looked.
