A 1930s Qashgai gabbeh rug from Fars in south west Persia.
Dark red field with a kaleidoscope of hooked and other medallions; dark brown and pale blue twin borders within red, apricot and brown guards; blue and white brocaded top end; brown and white brocading and striped flat weave with plaited goathair tassels at the lower end.
Very slight wear, soft handle. Medium pile, wool foundation.
A lovely tribal piece with a glorious disregard for symmetry which creates a really personal, lively effect.
