A 1920s-30s Afshar rug from the Kerman province in South East Persia of all wool construction.
Rugs have been woven in Kerman since the Safavid period (16th - 18th century) and major rug production began in about 1890.
This rug shows an accomplished geometric design of repeating dark blue, red and green and white flowers in the middle. Multiple borders with interestingly varied motifs. The edges have unusual slanted oversewing in a range of colours.
Overall wear, especially in the central area, with slight loss to flatweave ends.
This is a very pleasing antique rug.
Underlay recommended.
