A rare 1920s Tabriz carpet of Shah Abbas design from north west Persia. Shah Abbas reigned from 1587 to 1629 and he established workshops which produced carpets for his palaces and state gifts.
The shah abbasi motif of a palmette with sprays is a central feature of the design of this carpet and flows harmoniously through the soft colours.
Overall wear, heavier in places, with some loss to fringes but in very reasonable condition for an antique carpet of its age.
