A mid twentieth century five colour Kashan rug from west Persia.
A courtly, dense deployment of classic Kashan motifs of flowers and foliage in subtle dark brown, walnut and amber colours on an ivory field. Quarter medallions in the spandrels. Ivory main border of flowers and calligraphy with yellow and ivory floral guards.
Tiny details are picked out in dark blue and dark green providing an opportunity to do sophisticated colour matching with other elements in the room.
Slight loss to ends. Even, close clipped pile and in overall good condition. This is a sophisticated, finely woven piece.
