A mid 20th century Sariq Turkmen carpet in a rare almost square size.
Five rows of quartered guls. Rich deep red, pink, magenta and crimson feature in what at first sight appears to be red and introduce life into the design. A couple of patches of slightly uneven fading and some colour bleed into the fringes.
The generous checked selvedges are particularly charming.
Finely woven and good condition. A sophisticated but still tribal piece.
Good for a light contemporary interior and would be very effective in grounding a large or high space.
