A 1920s-1930s Kurdish rug from northwest Persia. The central field is densely patterned with shrub motifs in subtle yellows on a dark blue ground. The subtlest pink appears in the fringes and the selvedges show pleasing variations of brown. The rug shows a skilled use of a limited palette to create a really unusual and very grown up design.
Some corrosion to dark brown. Thin pile.
