A late 20th century Mashad ghileem/kilim from north east Persia.
Woven in cotton with wool details applied, it alternates bands of flat weave with both bold and delicate motifs that are embroidered on to the base, giving a sense of texture that is halfway between a full flatweave and a pile rug.
The colours are a harmonious and pretty combination of pink, lavender, blue, grey and black, with gold accents.
