A good early 20th century Derbend rug from Daghestan in north east Caucasus with rich colours and patterning.
Dark blue field with all over angular plants and flowers around a small terracotta central medallion, outlined in light blue. Light blue details in the filler ornaments, stepped light blue medallions with diagonal striped bars extending out of the field each side; pale blue main border of diagonal hooked leaves and medallions; reciprocal running dog guards in terracotta and dark blue.
Evenly close clipped pile and good condition. Soft handle.
